Day hike after a night at the condo with Dan and the Doc. I volunteered to drive since my 96 Cutlass was in the shop again. This time the Enterprise rental hooked me up since they had seen me so many times - they gave me a '97 Blazer 4WD to simmer me down....it worked. Anyway the trailhead is right off of Rte 302, the signis a bit hidden. After suiting up we were off, the trail started off pretty swell, gradual slope with fire road like conditions. We hiked by some old mining equipment or some sort of rusted out metal that had been there for decades. There were several stream crossings and several were at decent levels.
A walk along the stream opens to a pool at which you can view the frozen cascades. Beautiful at this time, plus the ice was thin enough in some places to see the water flowing behind it. A snack here with a wonderous view. Off to the top, the hike to the pond was stunning, with the stream running by and clear blue skies. There was a natural dam made from the curvature of the rocks creating the pond. A spectacular view of Zealand and Bond is visable from here. Great lunch spot!
