11/10,11 - Mt Tecumseh 4003 ft

Began with heavy rain at the trail head. via Tecumseh Bk Trail. Hike begins with crossing running water. Incline at the beginning is gradual coming to a point that runs closely along the brook. The first water crossing is shortly ahead. The gradient increases slightly and after coming to a rise the trail dips back down into the brook for the second water crossing. There are actually several water crossings but there are only two major ones at that. After a few hundred feet the trail gets steep and rocky. With full packs a slow pace is a good one. This grade carries on almost to the peak where the ground levels off. The view at the peak is nice if there is no cloud cover, which we were lucky enough to have. A view of Mt. Osceola and the Tripyramids can be seen. Once again our Canadien jay friends met us at the top adorned with winter plushness. Just before the peak the trail splits to the Sosman Trail. There is a wooden bench where great view of Mt Sandwich and Jennings Peak to the south can be seen.

Mighty cold evening! Mercury dropped to a cool 28 degrees. Snow began at 7 pm, although light fell like tiny styrofoam balls. With all the moisture, we had to break out Mr. Duralog, yes it's true! but instant campfire it was!!! By nights end the starry sky was finally visable in the evening sky.

In the morning the temperature was in the vicinity of 15-20 degrees. Blue skies and sunlight were visable through the trees but as they made for a great wind breaker they blocked all the sunrays that would have warmed up the camp site by at least a few degrees. Good thing for hot Tang and SPAM! what a breakfast!!!

With full packs time to the peak via Waterville Ski parking lot was 2 hr 20 min. Time from camp B to the parking lot was 1 hr 30 min.

Hauled ourselved down the road on Rte49 to the Mad River Tavern for some fine eats!
